Muir College Move In 2024
Welcome to Muir College! Please read the following information to learn more about Fall 2024 Move In.
Pre Move-In Steps
To do ASAP:
1). Submit your Student Identification photo so your ID, which is also your residence key, will be ready when you check in.
2) Choose your move-in time on the Undergraduate Housing Portal when it opens for Muir on August 20, 2024, but no later than 11:59PM on Friday, September 6, 2024. If you do not select a move-in date and time, one will be assigned to you. There are no additional times other than those provided on your Housing Portal. We understand that every student and family has unique needs, but we also have to move in 1,400 students. No exceptions to our move-in hours will be made. Our first move-in slot is 8:30AM and our last move-in slot is at 4:30PM so that we may be completely closed by 5PM.
3) Review the FAQs below:
4) Condense what you plan to bring. Check out Muir Room Tours & Muir Virtual Tours to view the Muir living spaces. You can visit the HDH website to review what things you can bring to campus & what to leave at home [HERE].
Regarding Room Assignments
We have been receiving a high volume of emails regarding their room assignment process. Thank you for being patient with us as we answer inquiries. Here are some common responses to questions we have been getting:
- At this time all room assignments have been made and NO room changes will be granted. A room change interest list will open during the second week of Fall Quarter, where HDH will consider room change requests. If you have any questions email muirreslife@ucsd.edu .
- If you are seeking accommodation for a medical/mental health related condition, please reach out to the Office of Students with Disabilities. An accommodation letter from OSD is required for any housing requests to be met.
- THEME HOUSING: If you have been placed in a themed house without signing up for one, please note that students participating in room assignments may be placed in any residential hall unit, including those on floors designated for themed housing. There are no logistical or physical differences between themed housing/regular housing bedrooms or suites. Participation in themed housing events is optional.
Move-In Information
- Visit the Housing Portal
- Please note you are only able to check-in during the move-in times listed. No evening or nighttime slots are available.
- You will be able to view available slots, if your preferred date and/or time is no longer visible, it is because it’s no longer available. You will have to choose another date and/or time that is offered. You can check your housing portal in case someone else changes or cancels their check-in date/time. Our office cannot add more time slots or make exceptions.
- If you do not select a move-in date by September 6th, you will be automatically assigned a move-in date/time.
- If you plan to move in later than the dates available, please contact the Muir ResLife office at Muirreslife@ucsd.edu to inform them of when you plan to arrive.
Move-In Day
Please read this carefully and follow the steps below to prepare for a smooth and safe(r) move-in. Review these following resources:
- You are limited to one car to help with car congestion and parking.
- Allow yourself ample time to navigate campus and account for traffic. The campus will be very congested with move-in traffic. You can expect some delays and/or limited accessibility to parking adjacent to the living areas.
- Temporary Parking (45-minute limit) is available for move-in. Do not park in reserved spaces as they are monitored 24/7. General unloading zones will be by Scholars Lane and Scholars Dr South ONLY. You have up to 45 minutes to unload at Scholars Dr South or 15 minutes to unload at Scholars Lane.
- After parking, you will go to Tamarack’s Mariposa Conference Room to officially check in, verify your cell phone number, pick up your e-lock access card, and bedroom key. You must have a valid ID (UCSD ID, Driver’s License, or passport) and QwikPass (available on the Housing Portal after September 6th). We suggest you take a screenshot of your QwikPass.
- On move in days, we have a limited number of move-in carts to check out to residents. We suggest you bring a dolly and/or wagon to move your heavier or bulky items. There is a 60-minute check out limit on carts. Carts will only be available during scheduled move-in hours and all services will conclude at 4:30PM.
- You will have 45 minutes to unload all your belongings via curbside unloading. Once you have unloaded, you may park in designated visitor spaces around campus. The closest parking structure is the Scholars Parking-South Entrance;
- There is no parking grace period prior to the beginning of the quarter. Day parking permits can be purchased on the ParkMobile App using the zone #4752.
- For additional parking options, please visit UCSD Transportation Services.
NOTE:
- Your QWIK PASS will be available in the Housing Portal beginning Thursday, September 7, the QWIKPASS will state your testing time and move-in date and time. This information will help campus volunteers direct you to your destination. It also has your unique PIN code for e-locks and your campus mailing address.
- The option to change your Dining Plan will be available on the Housing Portal and will be accepted through Monday, October 2, 2024.
Scheduled Move-In Time & Key Pickup
PLEASE arrive at your move-in scheduled time slot. Move-in times are planned to run from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Plan accordingly if you are flying into San Diego or traveling by vehicle. Your move-in appointment is an actual appointment, not a suggestion. Allow yourself ample time to navigate campus and account for traffic. The campus will be very congested with move-in traffic. You can expect some delays and/or limited accessibility to parking adjacent to the living areas.
There will be no move-ins after 4:30 PM. If you arrive after 4:30 PM on your scheduled move-in day, you will not be permitted to move in until the following day. No exceptions will be made. Here is some local HOTEL INFORMATION.
Key pickup will be at the Mariposa Room. Ensure you have valid identification (Driver’s License, Passport, etc.) and your QWIK PASS available to show staff. We recommend screenshotting or printing your QWIK PASS for easy access. You will receive your ID card as well as a physical bedroom key. The ID will serve as a keycard for the entrance to the facility while the bedroom key will unlock the bedroom. Please contact the Muir Residence Life Office if you discover any issues with key access during your stay.
Missed My Self-Scheduled Move-In Day
- Should you miss your move-in date and anticipate arriving past 4:30 PM you will be asked to return the following day. Conversely, if you arrive a day before your move-in date & time we will not be able to accommodate your move-in. Please plan accordingly. No exceptions will be made. Here is some local HOTEL INFORMATION.
Arriving after September 27th
Email muirreslife@ucsd.edu immediately so that we may add your name to a late arrival list. If you do not, we may release you from your contract to accommodate someone on the waitlist.

Your student can then meet you once they have their keys and continue the move-in process. Additional parking is available at the Scholars Parking Structure (temporary visitors parking and paid parking options available).
Layout of Buildings, Room & Bed Assignments
Once you have your key and encoded student ID, you can return to the 45-minute loading zone to continue to unload and move-in your belongings to your new living space. Single rooms are identified by odd numbers and do not have roommate information, while even-numbered rooms are shared spaces with multiple beds, designated by letters a, b, c, or d. For example, a room assignment of TI-G46c would indicate that you are in Tioga Hall, G house, in room 46, bed C. Switching your bed space or bed assignment is not allowed.
If you are in a triple, please use the bed assignment code to determine your bedspace.
- If your bedspace ends with an a, you are in the bottom bunk.
- If your bedspace ends with a b, you are in the top bunk above bedspace a.
- If your bedspace ends with a c, you are in the top bunk above the desk.
Please use the information to determine the location of your housing space.
