2024 NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION

We are excited to welcome you to the John Muir College Family!  Your Orientation is your formal introduction to your new environment as a member of the UC San Diego and John Muir College community.  Orientation provides you with the opportunity to meet other students beginning their academic career, interact with Muir College staff, and meet people who serve as important resources as you create your undergraduate experience. 

Orientation will provide you with the knowledge and campus connection necessary to begin navigating your first year at UC San Diego.  All incoming students are required to complete all components as directed.

 

Part One New Student Orientation Summer Virtual Sessions

We are excited to help you become acclimated to Muir College at UC San Diego and answer many of your questions. To aid you in your transition, we have worked closely with our partners within the College to provide you with the following virtual sessions that will help get you ready to join our community.

We look forward to getting to know you and welcoming you to the Muir community.

Register via Google Forms by July 26.

  • Monday August 5th, 2024  9am-11:30am Incoming First Year Students
  • Wednesday August 7th, 2024 1pm-3:30pm Incoming First Year Students
  • Monday August 12th, 2024  6pm-8:30pm - Incoming Transfers

Part One New Student Orientation Virtual Sessions 

In addition, Muir Academic Advising will be hosting Summer 2024 Enrollment Webinars with Q&A. 

First-Year Enrollment Prep:  Muir Academic Advisors will guide you through the Fall quarter enrollment process with Q&A time. Before attending a webinar, please review the content and video links on the New Triton Advising site at vac.ucsd.edu. This will help you follow along in the webinar and prepare you for your enrollment time. 

  • Fri. August 2nd - 11:00a-12:00p
  • Tues. August 6th - 3:00p-4:00p

 First Year Undeclared or Undecided Major?:   Are you Undeclared?  Do you have a Major, but still want to explore other options?  Either way, it's OK!  Join us to talk about the Major exploration process and resources to help you along the way.

  • Thurs. August 8th - 3:00p - 4:00p

Transfers with IGETC/IGETCP: Muir Academic Advisors will explain how IGETC and Partial IGETC factor into Muir College Requirements for students who transferred from a California Community College.  Advisors will also review the Fall quarter enrollment process with Q&A time  NOTE:  Students without IGETC should contact Muir Advisors during Fall quarter for evaluation of your transfer work.

  • Monday, August 5th - 3:00p-4:00p 

Registration links will be sent in late July by the Muir Advising office!  Keep checking your UCSD email all summer long!

Part Two New Student Orientation In-Person Session
The 2024 New Student Orientation In-Person Sessions will be held in September and your attendance is required. Check below for dates and times. Students only need to attend one (1) session. Choose your date by visiting the College Orientation Registration site (UCSD login credentials required) by July 26.

First-Year Student Orientation In-Person Sessions

  • Wednesday, September 18, 2024 - 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday, September 20, 2024 - 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Monday, September 23, 2024 - 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, September 24, 2024 - 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Transfer Student Orientation In-Person Sessions

  • Thursday, September 19, 2024 - 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, September 22, 2024 - 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Orientation Registration is available May 29, 2024 for First-Year Students and June 17, 2024 for Transfer Students.  Please visit your Enrollment Checklist for more information.

HOW DO I GET TO MUIR?

Click here for directions to campus. Please note road closures may occur due to ongoing construction.  Additional details are still being determined.  Please check back regularly for updated information.

WHEN DO I PAY FOR ORIENTATION?

Students: Orientation will be billed along with your Fall Quarter’s tuition which is available on TritonLink in September.  Payment for Fall quarter is DUE in late September. A fee waiver application will be emailed to your UCSD email account in August.
