Muir College Move In 2025

Welcome to Muir College! Please read the following information to learn more about Fall 2025 Move In.

Prepare for Move-In

To do ASAP:

1). Submit your Student Identification photo to ensure your ID, which also serves as your residence key, is ready for you at check-in.

2) Choose your move-in time on the Undergraduate Housing Portal when it opens for Muir on  Wednesday, August 20, 2025, but no later than 11:59PM on Thursday, September 4, 2025. If you do not select a move-in date and time, one will be  assigned to you. There are no additional times other than those provided on your Housing Portal. We understand that every student and family has unique needs, but we have a high volume of students to move-in and ask that you follow your scheduled move in time. No exceptions to our move-in hours will be made. Our first move-in slot is 8:30AM on all move-in days, from Wednesday, September 17, 2025 to Tuesday, September 26, 2025. From Wednesday, September 17, 2025 to Thursday, September 21, 2025, our last move-in slot is at 4:30PM so that we may be completely closed by 5PM.  From Friday, September 22, 2025 to Tuesday, September 26, 2025, our last move-in slot is at 4:00PM so that we may be completely closed by 4:30PM.

3) Condense what you plan to bring. Check out Muir Room ToursMuir Virtual Tours to view the Muir living spaces. You can visit the HDH website to review what things you can bring to campus and what to leave at home [HERE].

4) Review the Muir Move In Map below:

Room Assignments

  • At this time all room assignments have been made and NO room changes will be granted. A “Room Change Interest” list will open up during mid-October of fall quarter, where HDH will consider room change requests. If you have any questions email: muirreslife@ucsd.edu.
  • If you are seeking accommodation for a medical/mental health related condition, please reach out to the Office of Students with Disabilities. An accommodation letter from OSD is required for any housing requests to be met.

THEME HOUSING: If you have been placed in a themed house without signing up for one, please note that students participating in room assignments may be placed in any residential hall unit, including those on floors designated for themed housing. There are no logistical or physical differences between themed housing/regular housing bedrooms or suites. Participation in themed housing events is optional.

Move-In Date/Time Selection

  • Visit the Housing Portal to select a move in date and time by Thursday, September 4, 2025.
    • You will be able to view all available slots. If your preferred date and/or time is no longer visible, it is because it’s no longer available. You will have to choose another date and/or time that is offered. You can check your housing portal to see if someone else changes or cancels their check-in date/time and availability changes. Our office cannot add more time slots or make exceptions.
    • If you do not select a move-in date by Thursday, September 4th, you will be automatically assigned a move-in date/time.
    • New First-Year and Transfer Students: Please choose a move-in date and time prior to your in-person orientation, which is scheduled between September 7-23. Keep in mind that you have already selected one of the six orientation sessions, and you cannot move in on the same day as your session.
    • If you plan to move in later than the dates available, please contact us at muirreslife@ucsd.edu to inform us of your late arrival plan.
  • Please note you are only able to check-in during the move-in times listed. No evening or nighttime slots are available. There will be no move-ins after 4:30 PM. If you arrive after 4:30 PM on your scheduled move-in day, you will not be permitted to move in until the following day. If you are earlier than your scheduled move in time, we cannot accommodate your move in until your scheduled date and time. No exceptions will be made.

Move-In Day

Please read this carefully and follow the steps below to prepare for a smooth and safe(r) move-in.

  • You are limited to one car to help with car congestion and parking. Allow yourself ample time to navigate campus and account for traffic. The campus will be very congested with move-in traffic. You can expect some delays and/or limited accessibility to parking adjacent to the living areas.
  • PARKING
    • Temporary Parking (45-minute limit) is available for move-in. Do not park in reserved spaces as they are monitored 24/7. General unloading zones will be by Scholars Lane and Scholars Dr South ONLY. You have up to 45 minutes to unload at Scholars Dr South or 30 minutes to unload at Scholars Lane.
    • Once you have unloaded, you may park in designated visitor spaces around campus. The closest parking structure is the Scholars Parking Structure located in Sixth College.
    • There is no parking grace period prior to the beginning of the quarter. Day parking permits can be purchased on the ParkMobile App using the zone #4752.
    • For additional parking options, please visit UCSD Transportation Services.
  • CHECK IN
    • After parking, you will go to the Mariposa Conference Room located on the first floor of the Tamarack Apartments to officially check in. You will be asked to verify your cell phone number, you will pick up your e-lock access card (loaded onto your student ID), and bedroom key. You must have a valid ID (UCSD ID, Driver’s License, or passport) and QwikPass (available on the Housing Portal after Tuesday, September 9). We suggest you take a screenshot of your QwikPass or print it out.
  • CARTS
    • On move in days, we have a limited number of move-in carts to check out to residents. We suggest you bring a dolly and/or wagon to move your heavier or bulky items. There is a 60-minute check out limit on carts. Carts will only be available during scheduled move-in hours. If you have a move in time after 4 pm we encourage you to bring your own dolly/wagon since carts must be returned by 4:45 pm.

NOTE:

  1. Your QWIK PASS will be available in the Housing Portal beginning Tuesday, September 9th, the QWIKPASS will state your move-in date and time. This information will help campus volunteers direct you to your destination. It also has your unique PIN code for e-locks and your campus mailing address.
  2. The option to change your Dining Plan will be available on the Housing Portal and will be accepted through Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

Directions to Muir College, Parking, & Unloading Information

Due to space and time constraints, you are limited to one car.

Directions by Car:

Coming from the 5 North

  • Exit west (right) I-5 onto La Jolla Village Drive.
  • Continue straight for about 1 mile (La Jolla Village becomes North Torrey Pines Road).
  • Turn right at La Jolla Shores Drive (fourth traffic light), then make an immediate left onto Scholars Drive South (you should see a soccer field on your right).
  • Driver follows directions until you arrive at the stop sign on the corner of Scholars Drive South & Scholars Lane.
  • At the stop sign of Scholars Drive South & Scholars Lane, you will have reached the unloading areas for Tuolumne/Tamarack Apt. or for Tenaya/Tioga Residence Halls.

Coming from the 5 South

  • Exit west (left) I-5 onto La Jolla Village Drive.
  • Continue straight for about 1 mile (La Jolla Village becomes North Torrey Pines Road).
  • Turn right at La Jolla Shores Drive (fourth traffic light), then make an immediate left onto Scholars Drive South (you should see a soccer field on

We recommend that while your student is picking up their keys, that guests begin to assist with unloading to expedite the move-in process.  Your student can then meet you once they have their keys and continue the move-in process. Additional parking is available at the Scholars Parking Structure (temporary visitors parking and paid parking options available).

Layout of Buildings, Room, & Bed Assignments

In residential halls, single rooms are identified by odd numbers and do not have roommate information, while even-numbered rooms are shared spaces with multiple beds, designated by letters a, b, c, or d. For example, a room assignment of TI-G46c would indicate that you are in Tioga Hall, G house, suite G40s, in room 46, bed C.

Apartment bedrooms have a different pattern, as they do not have triple rooms. There is always 1 double in Tuolumne per apartment, while Tamarack always has 2 doubles per apartment. For example, a room assignment of TU-L04-2b means you are in Tuolumne Building, L-floor (2nd floor), Apartment L04, bedroom 2, bed B (right side of room).

Switching your bed space or bed assignment is not allowed.

If you are in a triple, please use this bed assignment code to determine your bedspace.

  • If your bedspace ends with an a, you are in the bottom bunk.
  • If your bedspace ends with a b, you are in the top bunk above bedspace a.
  • If your bedspace ends with a c, you are in the top bunk above the desk.

If you are in a double, please use this bed assignment code to determine your bedspace.

  • If your bedspace ends with an a, you are assigned to the bed on the left of the room.
  • If your bedspace ends with a b, you are assigned to the bed on the right side of the room.
  • *NOTE: for mini doubles/hallway rooms, “a” is bottom bunk and “b” is top bunk.

Please use the information to determine the location of your housing space. You can always ask Muir Reslife staff for assistance in locating your space if needed.
