Pathways to Leadership Program

The Pathways to Leadership program provides you with workshops and retreat to help develop and refine leadership skills, networking and community-building, and information to how to get involved on-campus and off-campus. You can either drop-in and attend one of the weekly workshops or quarterly retreats, or enroll in one of the Introductory or Advanced programs for CCR credit. You choose your own adventure! Learn more about the various programs and we hope to see you at a workshop or retreat!

Weekly Workshops

Each week, Muir College hosts a weekly workshop on various topics ranging from communication skills, career preparation, equity and social justice, working with others, and campus resources. If you're just joining the program, there will be an info session on October 7th to explain the program, and workshops will be Thursdays from 12:00-1:00pm. Week 2:  Pathways to Leadership Introduction

What does it mean to be at a diverse campus? How do we ensure inclusion is experienced by the members of our community? The reality is that we have to actively build inclusive communities when we function within a society that has historical and present exclusionary practices and values. Join us as we get real about marginalization, think through strategy to intentionally create spaces of mattering and imagine a community that empowers all of us at our intersectional identities.

Week 6:  Everything I Learned about Leadership, I Learned through Comic Books

Before there was the MCU, Assistant Dean Mario fell in love with all things comic books after watching an animated X-men series. And through comic books, TV shows, and movies, he was first introduced to concepts around leadership, teamwork, and EDI. Whether you are an avid comic book fan or not, join us for a fun session on leadership through the lens of comics and superheroes!

Retreats

  • Inspiring Muir Leadership Conference (Fall Quarter): Geared towards incoming first-year and transfer students and students interested in getting involved, this program is intended to providing introductory leadership skills, an introduction to equity and inclusion, and information on how to get involved in Muir College and on-campus.   • Muir Intercultural Retreat (Winter Quarter): 
    Open to both new and continuing students, this program provides an immersive experience on issues pertaining to equity and social justice through interactive activities and authentic dialogue. 
  • Muir Social Change Retreat (Spring Quarter) 
    Geared towards continuing students and graduating seniors, this program will further refine leadership skills, and participants will learn how to create change through their on-campus involvement or continue this work beyond the UC San Diego campus. 

Introductory (10-hour) Program

The Introductory "Pathways to Leadership" program is a 10-hour commitment. From fall through the end of the summer quarters, students are required to attend:

  • Six (6) one-hour workshops
  • Attendance at the Inspiring Muir Leadership Conference (Fall Quarter)

Advanced (30-hour) Program

The Advanced "Pathways to Leadership" program is a 30-hour commitment. From fall through the end of the summer quarters, students are required to attend:

  • Twelve (12) one-hour workshops
  • Attendance at the Muir Intercultural Retreat (Winter Quarter)
  • Attendance at the Muir Social Change Retreat (Spring Quarter)
  • Join the Inspiring Muir Leadership Conference planning committee or present at six (6) one-hour workshops
