Theme Housing at Muir

The three theme houses at Muir are Wellness House in Tenaya, and Cultural and Wilderness Houses in Tioga. These three theme houses provide opportunities for their residents to participate in specific activities related to the theme of the house.

Any resident assigned to live in the Muir Residence Halls is eligible to live in a theme house. During the summer, the Muir Residential Life office with send all incoming Muir students an email application. Residents wanting to live in a theme house should express a desire to live there and a willingness to participate in theme-related programming by answering the survey thoroughly.  However, submitting this application does not guarantee you a space in any of the theme houses and sometimes students are placed in a theme house they did not select.

If you have any questions about theme housing or the process of selection, please contact the Muir Residential Life office. Lastly, due to COVID-19, all field trips and large gatherings will be canceled until further notice.

Wilderness House (G House)

Wilderness House provides residents with rich opportunities to not only explore the nearby outdoor adventures that the San Diego region has to offer but in doing so, further build and develop relationships with their G House peers.  The G House HAs tailor specific trips for their residents each quarter, depending on the interests of their residents and specific offerings of the year. Past excursions have included day hikes, backpacking trips, camping, tide pooling, snorkeling, kayaking and rock climbing. No experience is required and any needed equipment is provided. Wilderness House is located on the 5th and 6th floors of Tioga Hall, also known as G House.

Wellness House (B House)

Wellness House is geared toward active people who are interested in exploring the areas of physical, mental, and spiritual wellness.  Activities may include attending sporting events, learning time management, relaxation and meditation techniques, participating in intramurals, and spiritual exploration. Wellness House is located on the 3rd and 4th floors of Tenaya Hall, also known as B House.

Cultural House (F House)

Cultural House at Muir College celebrates the rich diversity Muir students bring to the residential community. In Cultural House, students of different cultures, ethnicities, races, and sexual identities learn from each other and increase their personal awareness of equity mindedness and social justice issues, diversity, and the importance of inclusion.  Residents participate in programs and activities focused on various social justice issues.  These programs and activities may include cultural dinners, presentations by campus resources, presentations by HAs, museum trips, outdoor experiences, movie nights, and other student events.  Muir’s LGBTQIA + Living Learning Community will also be part of cultural house. Cultural House is located on the 3rd and 4th floors of Tioga Hall, also known as F house.
