Current Students
As a Muir student, you’re part of a campus community that affirms certain basic values. Muir’s founding Provost John Stewart described the “Muir style” as one which “fosters respect, excellence and achievement in knowledge, a spirit of inquiry and free discussion, courtesy even when there is a disagreement, and consideration for the rights and needs of others.” We continue to endorse those values today.
Education at UC San Diego can be an amazing adventure if you open your mind and let your curiosity take you in whatever direction it leads. As you know, an advantage of being a Muir student is that Muir’s General Education requirements allows you to choose the courses that work best for you. As one recent Muir alumna stated, “I felt like I owned my education.” Muir’s flexible GEs have another advantage: they give you more room to take advantage of all the educational opportunities that UC San Diego has to offer. Many Muir students find that they can double majors, pursue one or more minors, take extra electives, study abroad, participate in a program such as UC-DC or the Dartmouth Exchange and still graduate in four years. So please think of Muir’s GEs as an opportunity to broaden your perspective and knowledge base, satisfy your intellectual curiosity, and build an outstanding resumé at the same time.
We hope that you’ll check this website regularly for Muir news, events, and current information, to learn more about Muir, and to look for help when you need it.
