John Muir College - Celebrating the Independent Spirit

Welcome to Student Affairs

New experiences and adventures await you at John Muir College and UC San Diego! Never before have you had so many opportunities available to you. At Muir College, activities and academics are integrated as part of a balanced, interesting, and rewarding college experience. Through college-based services and programs, Muir College fosters and promotes appreciation of the environment, the development of interpersonal and leadership skills, intellectual growth and active community responsibility and engagement.

The Student Affairs staff supports student life and personal development outside the classroom. We advise Muir student organizations, collaborate with students in planning special events such as the annual Muirstock concert and festival, organize leadership training opportunities, and counsel students on a wide range of personal issues.

The wonderful, close-knit community at Muir College is directly linked to the high level of student initiation of and involvement with a wide range of activities and events throughout the year. Whether it be a whale watching trip, learning to juggle, attending a casino night, writing an article for our own student-run newspaper, editing a television show on Muir TV, or performing in the Muir Musical we are certain there is an organization or activity for everyone!

Use this website to check out our calendar and see when and where an organization is meeting, or find out what events and activities are being planned on our college calendar. Be sure to check out our weekly electronic newsletter Muirwords to find out what events are taking place this week at the college. If you have suggestions for an event that you do not see listed on our website, join one of our many organizations, or start your own organization!

Counselors from UC San Diego's Counseling and Psychological Services are based at Muir College as well as elsewhere on campus. Counselors help students develop the psychological resources and life skills to deal with developmental challenges, the pressures of academic work, relationship challenges, difficult family dynamics, pre-existing mental health conditions and trauma, stressful living situations, life transitions, and unpredictable crises.
