The John Muir College Caledonian Society
The Caledonian Society is Muir College’s Honor Society. Muir students with at least senior standing (135 units) and cumulative grade point averages of 3.8 or above are eligible for membership. New Caledonians are welcomed into the society at an annual banquet held in January to which family members and favorite faculty members of the inductees are also cordially invited.
History of the Caledonian Society
Muir College's founding Provost, John Stewart, named the society for Caledonia, the name the ancient Romans gave to Scotland, in token of college namesake John Muir’s original home. Muir students with at least senior standing (135 units, 44 of which must be at UCSD) and cumulative grade point averages of 3.8 or above are eligible for membership. New Caledonians are welcomed into the society at an annual banquet held in January, near the birthday of the famous Scottish poet, Robert Burns, to which family members and favorite faculty members of the inductees are also cordially invited.
