40th Events Calendar
Given John Muir’s commitment to environmental appreciation and protection, and the growing need for more sustainable
lifestyles, Muir College has adopted a general theme of sustainability for its 40th year. The “greening” of celebratory
events, 40 gifts of environmental service projects, and a hearty helping of historic remembrance flavor this year’s
activities. We feel that this theme is more than appropriate, indeed necessary, to retrace and remember the origins of
Muir College: this is what we’re about, people, and this year is our chance to prove it!
There are two major ways by which you can contribute to helping Muir. First, you can get together with your org, your
friends, or yourself, and think of some awesome way to serve the environment: beach clean-ups, an organic dinner that
you host, a commitment to energy saving, a commitment to provide environmental information to the student body throughout
the year, etc. Anything “envirothropic” goes. Once you’ve got the idea, contact Meg Gullo (info below) and she will make
sure that your contribution goes down in the books as one of Muir’s “40 gifts” to the environment. That’s our goal: 40
awesome gifts, the more the merrier.
Second, if you’ve got stories (and we know you do; this is the most active college on campus) about your time at Muir,
contact Maggie La Rochelle (info below). She can’t wait to hear about your memories, your contributions, and your Muir
experiences. We want to recall your first impression as a freshmen entering Muir, whether you’re part of the modern Muir
community or you came before Tioga was built! We want you to remember the awesome programs and events you helped implement,
how you met your fiancé in your Muir writing class, or some unique experience that makes you think fondly of your
undergraduate experience and share it with us for all to celebrate.
The Muir community past and present will reunite for a series of activities celebrating 40 years of excellence
during John Muir Week this April. We’re asking you to help us with our mission, to recap our history, by recalling
our fond experiences at Muir and retrace our origins to the environmental mission of our namesake, John Muir.
Thanks in advance for your contributions!
Sincerely,
Muir Alumni and 40th Celebration Interns
